The lily is one of those flowers that has got great character, life and energy. It seems to be full of confidence and life. It is little wonder that it finds itself in many Churches troughout Easter because of its spectacular colour and vibrancy.

‘I want to see the world through your eyes.’ Pope John 23rd
Much has been written about Pope John 23rd and the sweeping changes of Vatican II. But one of the first things he did when he was elected Pope was to visit the large prison, Regina Caeli, on the outskirts of Rome. He quickly won the hearts of his prisoner audience by telling them that a couple of his own relatives had done time in prison and came to no lasting harm. Then he told them “I want my heart to be close to yours. I want to see the world through your eyes”. Those words can still be found inscribed on a plaque in the prison chapel. Those words are worth reflecting for us as well. We can never assume anything about anyone. To fully understand someone we must see their world through their eyes. For every person this is different. It needs to be respected and can never be taken for granted.
