'Earth provides enough to satisfy the need of every person but not the greed of everyone.' ~Mahatma Gandhi

It is well known that there is enough to go around but wealth and greed mean that the cake is not evenly cut. More than 1.4 billion people live in poverty so extreme that they can barely survive, and around 25,000 people die from hunger each day whilst a new billionaire is created every second day. There is something radically wrong when greed and dominance can flourish so easy.

So much more could be said but we also know that a good healthy spiritual life always insists on an even cut of the cake. In our gospels Jesus says it's worth everything we have, our possessions, our efforts, our time and our energy. A healthy spiritual life splits the cake evenly, between work, rest, play and making time to nurture the spiritual. Getting this balance is always a key to happiness. Wealth alone is never a guarantee to inner happiness. Happiness is like a butterfly, the more we chase it, the more it eludes us. But if we turn our attention to God, it comes and softly sits on our shoulder.
