Photo was taken yesterday in St.Oliver’s Church, Ballyvolane, Cork (Irl)

Yesterday was Mother’s Day in Ireland and in many countries in Europe. In other parts of the world it falls on a different date. But the mums in our photo certainly were all smiles. Every Mum who went to Mass yesterday in St.Oliver’s Church picked up a lovely bunch of daffodils to mark the day.

Vinyl records are making a comeback with a great energy. When CD’s came out, it seemed vinyl was destined to be lost for ever. But those who love their music will always say that music from a vinyl record is much clearer and crisper than that of a CD. What was considered old and out of date is now gaining in popularity again. The same can be said of many things in life. We live in a world that has an in instant appetite for gadgets and bits and pieces that are new and trendy. Yet not everything new can satisfy our deepest spiritual longings. Many things like simplicity, peace, calm, love, healing and forgiveness cannot be reinvented. These are precious gifts that are always within our reach. Sometimes it’s easy to bypass what’s near and precious. Today I thank God for all that has been given to me, much more than I realise.
