This piece of sculpture was made by Ken Thompson. To use his own words he says: “The Holy Spirit, we are told, is not seen, only its effect is felt. My stone carving of the Holy Spirit symbolised by a dove, demonstrates that it is the result of the actions of the Holy Spirit that the third person of the Holy Trinity is recognised. Like the invisible effect of wind, the Holy Spirit’s effect is found mysteriously in our personal lives and human history. My sculpture is the imaginary result of the passage of a dove through stone, pleasing I hope, not only to the mind but also to the eye.”

Thought on Sunday – April – 11/05/2008

‘I firmly believe that the moment our hearts are emptied of pride and selfishness and ambition and self-seeking and every thing that is contrary to God’s law, the Holy Spirit will come and fill every corner of our hearts; but if we are full of pride and conceit and ambition and self-seeking and pleasure and the world, there is no room for the Spirit of God; and I believe many a person is praying to God to fill them when they are full already with something else. ~Dwight Lyman Moody

Today is the feast of Pentecost. The above quotation gives us plenty food for thought. The following prayer/reflection is also appropriate today.
The following reflection are the words of the Holy Spirit to all of us:
When you’re lonely, I wish you love. When you’re down, I wish you joy. When you’re searching, I wish you direction. When you’re happy, I wish you contentment. When things get complicated, I wish you simple beauty. When you’re angry, I wish you an inner calm. When things look empty, I wish you hope. When you’re confused, I wish you understanding. When you’re relaxed, I wish you an inner silence.
But most importantly of all I give you my greatest gift, the gift of my presence, that I’m with you right now, during this special day, during the week, during the years ahead. I’m with you always.
