David is the patron Saint of Wales. He must be praying in a special way for the Welsh rugby team who are doing so well in the six nations rugby championship at the moment! His father dreamed that he would receive 3 gifts, a stag, a fish and a swarm of bees. The stag represented his son’s power over the tempter serpent, the fish his abstinence and honey from the bees represented his holiness.

David was ordained a priest and founded many monasteries. He settled finally at Mynyw in the south western peninsula of Wales, now Pembrokeshire. March 1st is traditionally his feast day. More than 50 churches were dedicated to him before the Reformation. His emblem is a white dove descending with a mound of earth below. Leeks are traditionally worn on St.David’s day.

Today is his feast day and we ask his many blessings on us. Amen
