He spent his life working in Spain. He wrote many books and was a compiler of popular knowledge rather than an original thinker. He became famous after he died when his body was transferred to Le%uFFFDn in 1063. This was on the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela and his shrine became a major attraction. At the moment he is being put forward as the patron saint of the Internet, on account of the vast scope of his many writings.
