It was this time last year across Ireland when the big freeze really began to take hold. By Christmas it had such a firm hold that everything came to a standstill.

‘No one ever finds life worth living. One always has to make it worth living.’ ~Richard Feeley

Life has often been compared to a gift and it is a very good image except that at times we just look only at the wrapping paper. We need to go deeper and appreciate the special gift that it is. As we grow older we get a greater sense of the complexities of life and also a sense that all these complexities usually work themselves out in their own time. Quick fix solutions are very scarce. Life we are told will meet us half way. But we often have to go more than half way. We have to make life work, we have to do our bit and we have to keep taking those steps forward. It is easy to be bitter, cynical, critical, hostile and angry with life but there are no gains with such an outlook on life. Our spiritual beliefs help us to make sense of life and its complexities. Most importantly they help us stay on the road of openness, trying to make life work, doing our best and trying to help others along the same road.
