She was the first witness to the Resurrection and because of this she has been called the ‘apostle of the apostles’. She was a constant companion and friend of Jesus. She and other women were faithful to him during times of crisis and unlike the male disciples did not become discouraged and abandon him. Mary Magdalene was present at the crucifiction. She is a saint with whom popular devotion counts for more than official teaching. The prominence she is given to in the Gospels should be enough to ensure her an equally prominent place among the saints.
