‘Not only does God love us with a depth and an intensity that we can scarcely begin to comprehend, but God invites us to respond to that love. God wants your friendship. Once you enter into friendship with God, everything in your life begins to change.’ ~Pope Benedict

It has often been said that true and faithful friends can be counted in one hand. These are the friends who will stand by us no matter what happens. Their support, understanding, encouragement and love is constant. We can rely totally on them and equally they can rely on us too. Is God among your true and faithful friends or is God further down the list? There are often seemingly good reasons why God is down the list. In the midst of suffering, unexpected tragedies, sudden deaths, a prolonged illness, the fallout from scandals and unanswered prayers, there is a sense that God isn’t much of a friend. There is a loss of trust and that God has closed the door. But God never closes the door and always wants our friendship. God is with us through the good days but is in the midst of our greatest darkness too. No matter what is going on for us we can always turn in friendship to God.
