He is best known as an Italian Jesuit where he did great work with the poor and with Muslim slaves. He later moved to a place called Lecce. Here he established a new Jesuit house and college and remained here for the rest of his life. He helped many people, counselled many and had great care for prisoners and slaves. Miracles also began to be attributed to him during his lifetime. He was canonised a saint in 1947.
