Thought For The Week

‘Never under estimate the importance of having fun.’ ~Randy Pausch

The Ice Bucket Challenge is a craze that has been sweeping the nation over the past few weeks and today the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association revealed that donations in Ireland have reached a whopping 1.1million Euros, with the money still rolling in. It gained huge momentum when Daithi O Se got soaked during the Rose Of Tralee. He was followed by Sharon Ni Bheolain, Miriam O’Callaghan and it just took off. Irish people and indeed all over the world have completely got behind the challenge, with thousands of icy videos posted to social media sites each day. The appeal of the charity has played a huge part in the number of people taking part. But it also shows how people really enjoy a bit of fun.

This has spiritual significance too. When religion becomes stiff, cold and rigid it has lost its soul. Whatever we believe in is meant to sustain, guide, encourage and help us through life. It gives us a reason to keep going, to find meaning and fulfillment. It also gives us a reason to smile and to enjoy the simple blessings that each day can bring. The ice bucket challenge is a reminder to appreciate these blessings that are always within our reach. If you want to participate and support the charity just text MND to 50300.
