Photo was taken at Altamount, Millstreet, Co.Cork (Irl)

Well I picked the colour of our photo carefully today with the red apples! Our Cork Rebel Lady Footballers were crowned All Ireland Champions yesterday. They beat Dublin by 1 point and were 10 points down at one stage. Congratulations to Eimear Scally, (6th Year Student in Col√°iste Choilm, Ballincollig) who scored the winning goal towards the end of the game.
The little red apples are actually crab apples and this small apple tree is a lovely addition to any garden. In the spring in is full of the most beautiful pink flowers. During the summer these turn into little green apples and during the month of September they turn into the beautiful and vibrant red colour.

Thought For The Week

‘What we call the beginning is often the end. And to make an end is to make a beginning. The end is where we start from.’ ~George Eliot

Which appeals more to us, an ending or a beginning? These are key questions and the answer depends on how we choose to see it. Life as we know is a cycle of beginnings and endings. Some are profound and huge like marriage, a new job or moving home. Many are quick and transient like a shopping trip, reading a book and so on. It is hard to believe that we are nearly at the end of September. This month will be remembered for the beautiful warm weather. Everyone is delighted with it and many are saying, “It will shorten the winter”. But time keeps rolling on and nature moves with it too. The colours of autumn are filling our landscape as we move from September into October. It is all part of nature gently moving into the cycle of slowing down and letting go.

Throughout each day there will be moments that are just beginning and others that are simply closing. It can sometimes be good and healthy to close the door on some things in our lives, such as mistakes, regrets, guilt and so on. It is even healthier to welcome today as a new beginning. It’s not about making it perfect or having everything just right. It’s about doing my best, being open to the blessings that will come my way and maximising the little moments that can make each day special. We also pray and give thanks for these moments that make today special.
