Recent fine weather has been a bonus for the honeybee. The ivy flower is in full bloom at the moment and it is one of the last flowers that the bees can work before the onset of winter. So much depends on the weather for bees. But if the weather comes good at this time of year, the bees bring in lots of ivy nectar which they will use to top up their existing stores for the winter months ahead. With the bee in our photo today you can see a golden pollen sac on its leg. This bee is collecting pollen to take back to its hive to feed it to young bees as a source of protein. Nature is constantly at work even at this time of year.

Thought For The Week

A mother was preparing pancakes for her sons, Kevin, aged 4 and Tommy aged 6. The boys began to argue over who would get the first pancake. The mother saw an opportunity for a lesson in life. She said, “Boys if Jesus were sitting here he would say, ‘Let my brother have the first pancake. I can wait’.” There was a pause, then Tommy turned to his younger brother and said, “Kevin, you can be Jesus!”.
Waiting is something we are not good at. We live in such an instant world and everything is expected to happen immediately. Waiting for something is frowned upon and seen as unproductive. But from a spiritual point of view waiting can be productive and good. There are stories throughout scriptures of people waiting patiently for something special to happen in their lives. Putting their trust in God they waited patiently. Their patience was often rewarded.
We have to be comfortable in the waiting. The really good things in life are worth the wait. But if we are waiting for the perfect moment or the perfect event or the perfect someone special we are going to be disappointed. From a faith perspective we are encouraged as part of waiting to embrace and welcome every opportunity. When we are open to life in this way, what we are waiting for will find us. We pray this weekend and for the coming week to be open to all forms of waiting.
