In perfect weather conditions the Air Ambulance helicopter touched down in Bantry with lots of fascinated students looking on. Ireland’s first-ever Charity Air Ambulance service will be up and running in four weeks time. Irish Community Rapid Response (ICRR) is a charity dedicated to pre-hospital care.

The Air Ambulance is expected to respond up to 500 calls per year, and bring the population of a 10,000 square mile area within 20 minutes of critical medical care. The helicopter will be based at Rathcoole in Co.Cork, but will be available for call outs nationwide

Today Sep 29th is the feastday of St Michael.

The name Michael signifies “Who is like to God?” and was the warcry of the good angels in the battle fought in heaven against satan and his followers. Holy Scripture describes St. Michael as “one of the chief princes,” and leader of the forces of heaven in their triumph over the powers of evil in our world. He has been especially honored and invoked as patron and protector by the Church from the time of the Apostles.

Michael is one of our closest friends. We can call on Michael to intervene in conflict, evil and unrest. Michael brings great peace and calm to the most troublesome of situations.Although he is always called “the Archangel,” the Greek Fathers and many others place him over all the angels – as Prince of the Seraphim. St. Michael is the patron of grocers, mariners, paratroopers, police and sickness.
