Today is the feast day of St. John and I have dipped into the archive today for our photo and Thought For Today.
Photo was taken at Wilton, Cork (Irl)

The eve of St.John’s Day is marked with bonfire night. The tradition is very strong in Cork with many bonfires lit all over the city.

‘Better bend than break.’ ~Scottish Proverb

All engineering projects, no matter how small or big have to allow for give. Bridges, walls and steel structures all need room to expand with rising temperatures. Not to allow for such expansion will ultimately lead to the collapse of what was built. There are many situations in our lives where we also need to give and take. We sometimes would like to have done it our way but sometimes the best approach is to allow someone else their say and their opinion.

Today (June 24th) is the feast of St John the Baptist, who was always flexible, allowing people to have their say and their opinion. Many misunderstood him because of his lifestyle and direct approach. But everything he did came from his great belief, that Jesus really was the one who would make the difference. How right he was. Today we ask his many blessings on our communities, families and particularly on each of us when we find it hard to give and take.
