‘L√° Bealtaine’ which we celebrated yesterday has deep roots in our Irish culutre. Many customs associated with this day have died out during the years. One of these was the blessing of cattle on farms. Farmers walked the boundary of their farm starting east and then walked south and all around. As he/she went they blessed cattle in each field. It’s great to see old Irish customs, traditions & blessings being nurtured and given new life again.

We all need our friends and particularly during these difficult times. We can’t meet up with our friends in the way we used to before. This has been difficult for so many. But we do hope that contact with our friends will return to more normal as we head into the summer months. If we took our friends for granted before the Covid pandemic, then we will forever treasure our close friends from here on. We thank our friends for everything they do for us. If what you do as a friend seems small to you, it means the world to us.

The A-Z alphabet of friendship

A friend Accepts you as you are

Believes in you

Calls you just to say hello

Doesn’t give up on you

Envisions the whole of you (even the unfinished parts)

Forgives your mistakes

Gives unconditionally

Helps you

Invites you over

Jokes with you and has a sense of humour

Keeps you close at heart

Loves you for who you are

Makes a difference in your life

Never judges

Offers support

Prays for you

Quietens your fears

Raises your spirits

Says nice things about you

Tells you the truth when you need to hear it

Understands you

Values you

Walks beside you

Xplains things you don’t understand

Yells (gently!) when you won’t listen

Zaps you back to reality.
