Today Holy Saturday is a day of waiting. It is sometimes called the in between day. The awfulness of Good Friday and the Hope of Easter go side by side. The story could have just ended on Good Friday but thankfully we can celebrate Easter Sunday. The awfulness becomes hope.

The story of Good Friday is very much our story. It picks up on our sadness, our pain, our challenges, our difficulties and the crosses we all have to carry in life from time to time. As Christians we believe that our story does not end on Good Friday. There has to be something more. Easter is all about hope, new beginnings, new life and taking small steps forward in hope. It is about believing in ourselves, believing in love and kindness and being open to God’s blessings in our lives.

While out for a walk during the week I came across a fallen tree. It was blown over in a storm some years ago. But the tree did not give up. Some of the roots were still connected to the ground, and so over time the fallen tree pushed up new shoots. Over time these have grown upright over the fallen tree. This tree decided that there was the possibility of new beginnings and new life. It’s upright branches are now supporting new life and new beginnings.

The remains and scars of Good Friday may still be visibly seen in our lives. But the new story evolving from the old story is what Easter is all about. Wishing you a Happy Easter and praying God’s many blessings on you this Easter.
