I took this photo last Saturday evening at the Easter Vigil, in Carrigaline, Co.Cork (Irl) This is the Easter fire and if weather permits it is set up outside the church. The fire is blessed and from this fire the Easter candle is lit and taken into the church. Inside everyone then gets to light their candle. There is something about a candle that instils hope and that no matter how difficult our situation is, there is always light, hope and the promise of new beginnings. This is what Easter is all about.

Significance of Today

Today is National Vitamin C Day – This day has been created so that we can appreciate and learn all about the different ways that vitamin C can benefit our health. There are plenty of natural ways to add some more vitamin C to your diet. You don’t need to opt for vitamin C supplements, although many people do. Some of the fruits that have the highest sources of vitamin C include oranges, melon, citrus juices and fruits, kiwi fruit, pineapple, papaya, mango, and the various berries. These include cranberries, blueberries, raspberries, and strawberries. There are a number of vegetables that are rich in vitamin C as well, including cauliflower and broccoli.

Today is also Carrot day too reminding us that this root vegetable is full of vitamins and nutrition, while being tasty as well!

Thought for Easter Week

Let the resurrection joy lift us from loneliness and weakness and despair to strength and beauty and happiness.” ~Floyd Tomkins

The story of Good Friday is very much our story. It picks up on our sadness, our pain, our challenges, our difficulties and the crosses we all have to carry in life from time to time. But some people choose to stay in Good Friday. They forget to take the step out of the tomb into the light or just don’t have the confidence to do so. A small nervous step forward towards new beginnings is infinitely better than none at all.

As Christians and believers we believe that our story does not end on Good Friday. There has to be something more. Easter is all about hope, new beginnings, new life and taking small steps forward in hope. It is about believing in ourselves, believing in love and kindness and being open to God’s blessings in our lives. I would like to wish you a Happy Easter and every blessing on you and your family.
