Today we celebrate the feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The heart has always been associated with love, closeness, friendship and the centre of life. It should come as no surprise to anyone that the image of heart would also be used with Jesus. We so often talk about the love Jesus has for each of us. Jesus is not on the fringes but is to be found in the centre of life.
There has also been much written about prayer with endless books available. Prayer can often be hard to do, hard to understand and hard to make time for. But one of the most beautiful prayers that we have comes from today’s feast: “O Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in you.”. It is so simple, so uncomplicated, so full of trust and hope and one of the most personal prayers we have. It is also ours not just today but everyday.
When we struggle with our faith and spirituality, we don’t have to worry. We don’t need to try big, long prayers that mean little. Just say the Sacred Heart prayer and you will find a peace and calm, that goes beyond words: “O Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in you.”

Spiritual Thought For The Week🙏
Both the Winter and the Summer Solstices are expressions of love. They show us the opposition of light and dark, expansion and contraction, that characterize our experiences, so that we can recognize our options as we move through our lives. ~Author Unknown
Last Saturday (June 21st) we marked the longest day of the year. The biggest tilt towards the sun is at this time of year and it is possible to get 17 hours of sunshine in many parts of Ireland. With the beautiful weather we have had all week, there have been some eye catching sunsets at 10pm each evening.
From a spiritual point of view we are always invited to tilt towards God and everything that is good and life giving. We are equally invited to tilt away from negativity, bitterness and darkness. Nature has worked out the balance over millions of years.
The invitation on the longest days of the year is to tilt even a little, to something good, positive and worthwhile in our lives. We remember the words of Jesus: “Come to me all who are weary and overburdened and I will give you rest.”
