In so many schools this week, Leaving Cert Graduation Masses/Prayer Services are taking place. The following is an extract of some words that were spoken at Col√°iste Choilm by Cathal Leahy, 6th Year Head in the school. It is a gentle reminder of the positive input and contribution young people make to our lives each day

Today is a day we celebrate you. Your journey in our school community began six years ago. You have embraced and commited yourselves to a varied and rich set of extra curricular interests. You have brought honour on yourselves and to our school in so many ways. In you we have seen an idea find expression on canvas. In you, we have seen initiative and originality in science. In you, we have seen entrepreneurship. In you, we have seen spirit and endurance on many sporting occasions. Through music, drama and performances we have been enthralled, lifted and encouraged.

You have made our school a vibrant and living community. You have been an antidote to the language of economics and defeat. You have proven how wealthy we really are. You are our greatest asset, an investment that has already paid priceless dividends and a resource that has enriched us far beyond the limits of an economy. If you represent the young people of our small but proud island, then our future is secure. Good luck, do your best. I know it will be more than enough. And remember ‘Yes you can’ – ‘Is F√©idir linn!’
