“A red sky at night is a shepherds delight, a red sky in the morning is a shepherds warning” so goes the old saying. Geraldine Dennehy captured this great sunset recently outside her home in Ballydaly.

‘We all have our demons to contend with. The form they take can be fear, immaturity, jealousy, self-dislike, low self-esteem, dislike of others, resentment, carnal cravings, depressions, the ageing process and an inability to accept an all loving God.’ ~Tom Cahill

Throughout the Gospel stories we see Jesus healing many people, particularly those who had demons and heavy burdens. A demon has been described as a cruel, evil or destructive force or thing. Jesus was only too aware of the destructive and negative force a demon can bring. On so many occasions he healed people, got rid of the demons completely and allowed people to move on with their lives. Today there are many demons out there. No person is immune from them. They can take over our lives and this can bring much sadness and personal pain. Jesus drove the demons out through love and healing. It is the only way we will drive them away today as well. It is not easy because demons thrive on fear and negativity but can’t cope with the power of love. We can’t change the world. We can’t drive away the many demons out there but we can start with ourselves. Can we begin by naming a demon in our lives at the moment? Has it control over me? Am I willing to begin to untangle the hold it has on me? Can I ask for God’s healing where I really need it? The power of love and healing has no limits.
