‘We are mysteries, even to ourselves. We so easily become unsettled, disturbed by anxieties or attachments of unknown origin that threaten to knock us off balance. Yesterday’s certainties become today’s doubts, as we wonder what tomorrow will bring.’ ~Mark Neilsen

Every single one of us are fragile and complex. We have all got our own unique story and we carry a lot of personal stuff around with us. We often put on a brave face to the outside world and yet inside and underneath we can be churning up with worries and anxiety. Family and friends can sometimes pick up that we are not ourselves, but not always so. It is hard to be ourselves when we are off balance. The book of psalms even though written several thousand years ago, picks up on every aspect of our lives, including our fragility and how we tend to worry about so many things. In psalm 84 we hear the psalmist in a heartfelt prayer: “My heart cries out for the living God”. The cry was not for any God out there, but for a living God. Our belief is that God is not cold, distant or removed. Instead our sense and experience is that God is living, near, loving and very much with us in all our worries, anxiety and complexities. We can invite this living God into our lives starting with today.
