The countdown to Christmas is well and truly on! Students brought in their Christmas baking as part of a festive display. This Santa cake made by Katie Lymbard was particularly eye catching.

Thought For The Week

‘If you have two pieces of bread, give one to the poor, sell the other and buy hyacinths to feed your soul’ ~a Hindu poem

The Toy Show which was a huge success last Friday on RTE is always the first indicator that Christmas is really fast approaching. The last few days of November also mark the beginning of our journey through Advent. For many it’s a word that doesn’t connect or has little to offer our personal journey. Maybe one way to describe Advent is that it’s like having hyacinths to feed your soul. The Hyacinth is different for everyone but it is what you do to mind you.

Our spirit, soul or inner self needs nourishment and time. We often are just too busy to give it the time it deserves. Advent is a journey that priorities time for ourselves and gives us time to ask what the message of Christmas can mean for us. Where would we like Jesus to be born in our lives this Christmas? What part of our journey at the moment needs healing and priority? If we rush through the next few weeks it won’t happen. Advent puts the brakes gently on, allowing us to slow down enough to make it happen.
