More snow showers yesterday added unexpected weight for some daffodils. Getting snow at this time of year after St Patrick’s Day is definitely not the norm!

‘God’s strength to direct me, God’s might to uphold me, God’s wisdom to guide me, God’s eye to look before me, God’s ear to hear me, God’s word to speak to me, God’s hand to guard me, God’s way to lie before me, God’s shield to protect and save me.’ ~St.Patrick

It is simply amazing the extent and the amount of St Patrick’s Day celebrations that took place all over the world during the weekend. Despite the cold many of the parades escaped the snow showers that fell yesterday.

St Patrick had great devotion to God and was always sensitive to God’s presence all around him. He embraced the message of Jesus in a beautiful positive and creative way. It has to be said though that the Christian message down through the years has got lost and stifled in rules, regulations, dogmas and doctrines. Patrick made a deliberate effort to keep the message simple and spoke about God’s message of love peace, healing and forgiveness in a language that the people understood.

In today’s world where many people drift aimlessly in life, Patrick is a voice of hope. He took great confidence from God’s presence in his life. He shared and instilled this confidence in the people he met. Many lack confidence in their faith today. Today is a day to be be confident in whatever faith you have. Treasure it, be proud of it and let today be a day of blessing for you. Patrick allowed the people to grow in confidence. We need to as well.

In his own personal writings he explains how prayer helped him with his own struggles. He talks about how he overcame seemingly impossible difficulties through prayer. Today is a day to acknowledge God’s gentle presence in our lives. It’s a day to pause for a moment in prayer and like Patrick not to be afraid to ask God for guidance, direction and an abundance of blessings.
