Thought For The Week

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent and is a time of reflection and preparation leading up to Easter. Ash Wednesday falls 46 days before Easter Sunday and always begins on a Wednesday. It is never the same date each year. Easter always falls on the Sunday after the first full moon on or after March 21st

The ashes are a powerful symbol of our mortality and that we are simply pilgrims passing through this world. When the ashes are gently applied to our foreheads with the sign of the cross, we are invited to reflect on life and to do something good during the journey of Lent.

The ashes remind us that everyone is equal. No one is superior or better than anybody else. The ashes are also an outward sign that you stand out as a person loved by God. The ashes remind us that we are all connected. The ashes remind us that now is the time to do something good – not tomorrow or next week but today. Ash Wednesday starts the journey of Lent which means springtime. May your journey through Lent be a time of hope and new beginnings for you.

Amen
