Thought on Thursday – March – 01/03/2012

‘To be a follower of the Lenten Jesus is to be convinced again and again that we are creatures of pain and weakness, continually losing our bearings in the voyage of our lives. And until we know ourselves to be lost we can never be found.’ ~Daniel J O’Leary

The early enthusiasm we may have had last week as Lent began, may now be a fading memory. But the most important day on the Lenten journey of 2012 is today. It is also the first day of March and a good day when we can begin to find our bearings in life. No matter what our age, we sometimes lose our bearings in life and we desperately search for some stability and direction. If we think that life should be perfect we are going to be constantly disappointed. Our journey through Lent is acknowledging that at times we do lose our bearings and that we are lost. But God always wants to reach out to us when we are in such a place. Lent is one of those times of year when we can begin to feel found again. That’s why the rest of this Lent presents a lovely opportunity to find ourselves again.
